Hypnosis To The Rescue
On July 15, 1976 the evening news was grim: a busload of 26 children from Chowchilla, California had vanished. The kids and their driver had been kidnapped by three masked, armed men.
Later, it was found that the children and the bus driver had been driven to a quarry and forced into a truck buried 6 feet underground. Sixteen hours later they dug themselves to freedom and were rescued. The FBI interviewed everyone, but no answer to the question: Who were the hijackers?
Then the bureau called in Dr. William S. Kroger, an authority on hypnosis. Kroger sat with Chowchilla Bus Driver, Ed Ray in a Fresno motel room and told him to fix his gaze on a spot on the wall and breathe deeply. In a few minutes, Ray was in hypnosis. Dr. Kroger then took Ray back through the kidnapping. The driver was able to recall all but one digit of the license plate of the white van used in the kidnapping. The information helped authorities track down the three suspects.
